Song Origin: I started writing ‘The Lord Does What He Wants’ on my 21st birthday, in the Magee University music building, alone, sobbing. I felt estranged in a new culture and wrung out from an emotionally abusive relationship and honestly had to sit there and sing and play myself into some form of comfort and humor. We all need to sail away from seriousness every now and then and sometimes experiences that break you down, force you to look at how trivial getting wrapped up in your ego and judgment is. Sometimes you need to break a literal or metaphorical bones in order to be humbled (Derry, NI, U.K., 2017).

Notes on the Making:
My friend Caoimhe and I were sitting in our shared living room in Clarence House in Derry where I often strummed away in my wee corner while the other residents hung out and chatted. I was playing the first bit of the pre chorus, “I want to sail away from everything serious, bury anxieties and…” couldn’t think of the right tail end to tie it together and she just came out with with “take MD with the Lord.” Our first night being housemates, we went out on the town with Sarah and Caoimhe's friend Kevin (AKA Lord Kevin Kyle) and ended up laughing our heads off till 7am, all smushed into her bed. So naturally the chorus stuck.
