about

Song Origin: My partner and I were walking up the hill to my place when I dropped into the topic of fear. He hadn’t had anything bad happen in his life until recently so he didn’t have much baggage to cause him to worry until then. He was being invaded by the concerns and sadness for his nanny, who was slipping away from his family into dementia. This was his first glimpse of bigger uncertainties and the fear of not knowing how to cope with death. This song is about trying to let go of worries from things that haven’t come to pass and focus on the present. (Derry, NI, U.K., 2017).

Writing Process:
That week, I started writing ‘Vintage Gouda’ with some deep idea bouncing form my stoner housemates Sarah and Shauna. I joked that I enjoyed writing around them to glean from their loose creative minds.

Title Meaning:
I picked ‘Vintage Gouda’ as the song title because it was my partners favorite cheese at the time and also he’s my big cheese. I thought I’d pick something indicative of him but too ambiguous for anyone to think it was about love.

lyrics

Vintage Gouda

Let your body go your mind is already gone
You’ve been stuck inside a notion to yourself
Spending time thinking about things that may not come to pass

You’ll be torn down in the end
There will be times when you feel lonely
Not really sure what’s going on with your life
Well you may as well die happy

If you’re prepared you’ll watch yourself
When you’re not you’ll fall apart then pick yourself back up again
Go west to lose yourself and reset
To raise your new frame in a house that could fall down

You’ll be torn down in the end
There will be times when you feel lonely
Not really sure what’s going on with your life
Well you may as well die happy

Let your body go your mind is already gone
You’ve been stuck inside a notion to yourself
Spending time thinking about things that may not come
